The sodium salt of citric acid, used as a sodium source and buffering ingredient in hydration formulas.
WHAT IT IS
Sodium citrate is the sodium salt of citric acid, widely used in food and beverage manufacturing as a buffer and flavour agent.
Sodium is the electrolyte lost in the largest quantity in sweat.
WHY FORMULAS USE IT
- It supplies sodium in a form that is highly soluble and less harsh than sodium chloride in a formulation context.
- It is the conventional sodium source in electrolyte products.
WHAT THE EVIDENCE COVERS
Sodium's role in fluid balance and its loss through sweat are well established physiology.
That physiology describes sodium consumed in a drink. It does not describe sodium held against skin, and VYROTECH does not present it that way.
CONTENT IS NOT ABSORPTION
Sodium in solution is a charged ion — the same permeability caveat as magnesium and potassium applies.
A hydration patch is a convenience format. It does not replace drinking fluid, and nothing on this site should be read as saying otherwise.
